In Poverty

The ex-Empress Zita of Austro-Hungary is reported to be living near Vienna in indigent circumstances. Her entire revenue is something less than $5,000, derived principally from the sale of wine from the Imperial cellars. Contrasted with the magnificence of the Habsburg Court, her impecuniosity is a greater hardship than it would be to an ordinary person, especially as she has five children to support.

For a time, she enjoyed the hospitality of King Alfonso and Queen Victoria of Spain, but that came to an end.
