King and Tradition
His Majesty King George reopened Westminster Hall, which, just before the War, was closed for repairs. The historic building, adjoining the Houses of Parliament, was built some 500 years ago.
Standing near the place where Charles I was condemned to death and Cromwell was proclaimed Lord Protector; in the place where the King's Champion used to ride in on a charger and challenge to mortal combat anyone who questioned the right of the King to the Crown; where for many years Coronation Banquets were held, King George V said that " Westminster Hall appealed in a special manner to the mind and manner of the whole English-speaking race. For centuries it had witnessed the growth of the Constitution and had been, as it were, a link between the Crown and the people."
