A Tribute

A monument to the late U. S. President. Warren G. Harding, whose friendship for China and world peace was proved by his calling the Washington Conference, was unveiled in Central Park (Peking) near the altar of the Five Earths (which symbolizes the five races of China) on the 2,400th anniversary of the death of Confucius. There were present among others: Dr. Jacob Gould Schurman, U. S. Minister; Dr. V. K. Wellington Koo, former Chinese Minister to the U. S., who took a leading part in the Washington Conference; both gentlemen made speeches emphasizing President Harding's friendship for Ch:na.

The monument was erected by popular subscription through the efforts of the " Diplomatic Association." It is a marble obelisk ten feet high on a simple marble base which bears Chinese and English inscriptions.
