Governor-Generalship

According to The Daily Express, a London newspaper owned by Lord Beaverbrook (former William Maxwell Aitken, a Canadian), strong pressure is being exerted on the British Government to appoint Admiral of the Fleet Lord Beatty Governor General of Canada when Lord Byng retires next year. Failing him, Field Marshal Lord Haig is suggested.

It was pointed out that Lord Beatty is of a temperament suited to the Canadians and that his position as First Sea Lord of the Admiralty will terminate coincidently with Lord Byng's term of office.

It was also recalled that the famed sailor is but 54 and that Lady Beatty is a daughter of the late Marshall Field of Chicago.

Lord and Lady Haig recently completed a thoroughgoing tour of Canada.
