"Vindicated"
The political convulsion in Illinois (see p. 11) echoed in the Senate. Many a Senator expressed relief that Frank L. Smith, Senate outcast, had been cast out also by the people of Illinois as an exponent of corruption instead of canonized as a martyr to States' rights.
Said Senator Keyes: "That settles the Smith case . . . Bully!"
Said Senator McNary: "The Senate stands vindicated."
