N. Dak. Most U. S. citizens, encouraged by President Coolidge, gave thanks on Nov. 29. But in North Dakota, record wheat and potato crops have been followed by lowest prices since the War. Therefore, observed last week's official N. Dak. crop summary, North Dakota farmers, seeing no occasion for thanksgiving, gave no thanks.

Sweet Chocolate is candy, not food. Thus ruled Federal Judge W. H. Kirkpatrick in Philadelphia, last week. Result: the U. S. government will not have to return $4,495,325.66 principal, $1,500,000 interest, to Hershey and other chocolate companies. This sum was paid in candy taxes to the U. S. under acts now repealed.

Dividend. Prosperous, successful, the Guaranty Co. (N. Y.) last week announced increase of capital stock from $5,000,000 to $9,000,000, and a $4,000,000 stock dividend, the first to be declared by an investment subsidiary of a N. Y. bank (Guaranty Trust Co.).
