Early this year Merrill, Lynch & Co. sold their branch offices to E. A. Pierce & Co., became specialists in chain stores. Last week they compiled the results of 52 chain store companies for last month and for the first nine months of the year. During September total sales were $310,535,660, a 4.16% decline.
