Reward
When Vasile Foar, a onetime railroad shop worker, was 35, a strike occurred in Garrett. Ind. machine shops of Baltimore & Ohio R.R. Vasile Foar acted as foreman of a crew of strikebreakers. In return for his services the road promised him work for the rest of his life. That was in 1922.
After the strike was over Vasile Foar was a marked man, and his fellow workers did their best to make life miserable for him. When things got too hot for him in one place, he would be transferred to another. But everywhere he went his fellow workers knew that he had been a strikebreaker. Finally in 1931 B. & 0. discharged him.
Thereupon Vasile Foar sued B. & O. for $37,500 damages. A jury eventually awarded him $4,500. The case was then carried to a U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Last week in Chicago the Circuit Court handed down a unanimous decision holding that Vasile Foar had been discharged without cause, confirming his 4,500 award. By this time Vasile Foar was 49.
