Justice for Kohn
Governor Gordon Browning of Tennessee is not popular in Memphis because, after accepting the election support of Boss Ed Crump, he turned his back on that Democratic mastermind. One friend Governor Browning has in Memphis is Lawyer Ben W. Kohn, nowadays working hard for Mr. Browning's renomination in the August primary.
Recently someone wrapped a length of iron pipe in a newspaper and with it slugged Ben Kohn. Slugged also were various other Browningites. Last week, Governor Browning posted $250 reward for Ben Kohn's slugger's apprehension. At the same time he invoked a forgotten law of 1919 empowering him to appoint up to 600 State police.
Sheriff Guy Joiner of Boss Crump's Shelby County made a face. "Should these so-called State police show up in this county carrying pistols," said he, "I'll put every one of 'em in jail!"
