Few of the ohs! & ahs! that greeted last season's New York World's Fair were called forth by its amusement area, whose one outstanding big hit was the Aquacade. This season Fair officials will keep a sharper eye on the Midway. From "World's Fair, N. Y." last week came the announcement of a superspectacle, American Jubilee, which will open when the Fair does, in May.

Seating 7,000 people, American Jubilee will be a monster outdoor Fair show. Its cast will include 300 people, 40 horses. Pageant, operetta, ballet, vaudeville all in one, it will move in waltz time and march time down the flag-draped colonnade of U. S. history. Washington will be in it, Lincoln will be in it. But it will go light on "throwing off the tyrant's yoke stuff" in favor of gaiety and dash, Barnum and Jenny Lind, T. R. and Lillian Russell.

Out for big names, the Fair has already hired Arthur Schwartz to write the music, Oscar Hammerstein II to write the lyrics. No headliners have yet been signed up, but the Fair is angling for such performers as Gladys Swarthout, Bing Crosby. Estimated cost of production: over $500,000. Price of general admission: 40-c- (same as the Aquacade).
