Puccini: The Heart of La Boheme (Orchestra of Milan's La Scala Opera, Umberto Berrettoni conducting, with Beniamino Gigli, Licia Albanese and others; Victor; 10 sides). An anthology containing practically all the brightest blossoms of Puccini's most popular opera, selected from Victor's previously released complete recording. The cast is brilliant, the singing rich in the best garlicky Italian tradition. Recording: good.
Beethoven: Quartet No. 4 in C Minor, Op. 18 (Budapest Quartet; Columbia; 6 sides). One of the finest of Beethoven's early quartets, superbly performed and recorded.
Album of Songs and Spirituals (Marian Anderson, contralto; Victor; 8 sides). A collection of light-weight items including Massenet's Elegie, Comin' Thro' the Rye and My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord, sung with Contralto Anderson's characteristic sincerity and velvety voice. Recording: excellent.
