Fireproof Paint. A new smokeless, nonflammable paint said by its makers to be far more effective than other fire-retarding paints was brought out by Baltimore Paint & Chemical Corp. Called Saf, it stops flames from spreading, insulates interiors against heat by forming a coat of cellular puffs up to an inch thick when touched by fire. Cost: $8 per gal.

Steadfast Bra. The first bra on the market with Velcro, the nonmetallic, zipper-like fastener made of thousands of tiny nylon hooks and loops (TIME, Sept. 8), is being test-marketed by Charmfit of Hollywood. The bra fastens in the front, thus can be easily put on. Cost: $5.

Alarm Wristwatch. The only U.S.-made alarm wristwatch was put on sale by General Time Corp.'s Westclox. Shock resistant, with luminous dial and hands, it is considerably cheaper than foreign-made models. Price: $16.95.

Safety Air Seat. A new type of airline seat for protecting passengers in a crash has been adopted by Sabena Belgian World Airlines for use in its new Boeing 707 jets. The seat automatically tips backward on impact until the passenger's spine is nearly horizontal, thus putting his whole body in a better position to withstand the shock. Because of its lower center of gravity, the seat is also less likely to be ripped from the floor.

Nylon Rifle. Remington Arms will put on sale a .22-cal. rifle made of nylon except for a steel barrel and bolt assembly. The rifle is one-third lighter than present models, is more durable and not hurt by water. Price: $49.95.

Magic Carpet. A new nonskid, weather-and mark-proof vinyl carpet will be put on sale by U.S. Rubber Co. Price: $5.95 per sq. yd.

Automatic Fisherman. An automatic, spring-triggered fishing-rod holder for lazy or busy fishermen was put on the market by Automatic Fish Rod Manufacturing of Detroit. The holder can be adjusted for small, medium and heavy fish, automatically snaps to a vertical position and sets the hook at any bite on the line. Price: $6.49.

Aluminum Shingles. "Lifetime" aluminum roof shingles in six baked-enamel colors embossed with wood grain were announced by Reynolds Metals Co. The shingles interlock to withstand high winds. Price: $40 per 100 sq. ft.
