New York City's ex-mayor opposed the civil rights bill, explaining, "Anything that Ted Kennedy does other than teach swimming is always something you ought to look at twice." He also called the Senator a murderer. Said a Kennedy spokesman: "I don't think anyone takes Koch seriously."
