Visitation Rights

By Melissa August, Val Castronovo, Matthew Cooper, Daren Fonda, Benjamin Nugent, Julie Rawe, Hope Reeves, Alain L. Sanders and Josh Tyrangiel

TRAVELER IN CHIEF In 7 1/2 years our jet-setting President has graced every state in the Union--except Nebraska. Now the Cornhuskers are begging Clinton to squeeze them in, for their July Great Platte River Road Archway Monument dedication ceremony. It wouldn't be the first not-so-newsbreaking event he has attended. (Numbers are estimates from White House staff members.)

STATE VISITS ONCE CAME

New York 75 so Chelsea could see Broadway shows for her birthday

California 60 to watch the U.S. women's soccer team play China

Massachusetts 45 for a vacation

Florida 35 for just five hours, some of it on a visit with retirees at the North County Senior Center in Palm Beach Gardens

Illinois 35 to see a Cubs game when Sammy Sosa was hot

Arkansas 30 to attend his high school's rededication as the William Jefferson Clinton Cultural Campus

Pennsylvania 30 to tour a Harley-Davidson plant for National Dialogue on Jobs and Trade Day

New Jersey 25 to make a commencement speech at Princeton

Missouri 20 to talk with the Pope at the St. Louis airport for 20 minutes
