Abstract

The composition of drying oils and mechanisms of film formation are discussed. Various proposals for the mechanism of autoxidation reactions for both nonconjugated and conjugated drying oils are covered. The use, selection, and mechanism of action of driers to catalyze film formation are covered. Modification of drying oils to bodied oils, boiled oils, conjugated oils, higher functionality oils, maleated oils, and vinylated oils are discussed.
