Abstract

Ethylene oxide polymers are high molecular weight (>100,000) water-soluble thermoplastic polymers. This article reviews the effect of shear, pH, salt, and temperature on the physical and chemical properties of poly(ethylene oxide) solutions and melts. Industrial uses of the unique properties of poly(ethylene oxide) in fields such as flocculation, pharmaceutical excipients, adhesives, coatings, and personal care are summarized.
