Abstract

This article includes a description of the important commercial printing processes used in the world. The inks required for each of these processes are described, including the key ingredients in the formula necessary due to the physical constraints of each particular printing process. A discussion of the nature of the raw materials used in printing inks and their general chemical composition is given. A summary of the environmental regulations applying to the printing industry and their impact on ink formulation is presented.
