Abstract

Many substitutes for leather have been proposed and have come into general use. Some leather products have been replaced by vinyl-coated fabrics, and by urethane-coated fabrics. Man-made leathers have finally succeeded in simulating leather to such an extent that they are nearly identical in appearance and properties, thanks to their unique structure. Annual production reached more than 30 million m2 in 1992 and is still growing due to high performance.
