Abstract

The three approaches to corrosion control by coatings are discussed: suppression of anodic reactions (passivation), suppression of cathodic reactions, and barrier coatings. Corrosion control by baking coatings, electrodeposition coatings, in maintenance coatings, automobile coatings, and aircraft coatings are reviewed. Chromium(VI)-free and Ni-free metal pretreatments are reviewed. The problems of evaluation and testing are discussed.
