Abstract
Sulfamic acid (amidosulfuric acid) is a monobasic, inorganic, dry acid, the monoamide of sulfuric acid, produced in crystalline form. The acid is highly stable at room temperature. Aqueous solutions are ranked as strong acids similar to hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. Sulfamic acid is available in dry form, permitting a convenient packing and handling operation. Sulfamic acid is used in chemical cleaning, sulfonation reactions, removal of nitrite, as a chlorine vehicle, and for a variety of other applications. Sulfamic acid is also used as a raw material of sodium cyclohexylsulfamate, which is a synthetic sweetener. Some sulfamates are also commercially available.
