An admired multidisciplinary scientist, especially on surface science, which to me is most intriguing.
As for the Kuhn’s 2 different forms of scientific activities mentioned in the address: normal science (puzzle-solving) and problem (discovery), I think the formal can be just called technology and the latter science.
