According to the chinese lunar calendar, the ChongYang (9/9) is about 3 weeks after ZhongQiu (8/15). Since 9 is the biggest number, ChongYang means something at the top. Usually people go hiking on that day because hiking is the best way to have people feel they are at the top of something, which in space is in harmony with the Time. 9 also stands for the old. Seniors wear chrysanthemum on their heads and drink the wine made from it because this flower also is referred as the last one of the year. The above is the way how chinese observe these days. China has a series of these symbolic days from 1/1 to 9/9, which consists of part of the chinese traditional metaphor system.<–>According to the chinese lunar calendar, the ChongYang (9/9) is about 3 weeks after ZhongQiu (8/15). Here what I want to say is what I feel about these days in US, specifically in Clemson, SC. American treat one of them as Halloween, which has already been transformed into children’s holiday. Halloween has nothing to do with me. What really excites me is the beautiful scenes, especially the colorful leaves flying in the sky of the fall. In my opinion, “fall” and “leaves” are the 2 most poetic words in English. English forefarthers creating these 2 words must be experiencing the same empathy as those chinese forefarthers and using the same imaginary style to make them. How do you think of these 2 words? Then I think back to the chinese 9/9, these 2 numbers seems to me like 2 golden or deep red leaves falling into my eyes:)
